ECB keeps interest rates on hold

EUROPE - The European Central Bank has maintained the key interest rate for the 12 countries within the eurozone at 4.5%.

The decision came hours after official figures revealed that unemployment in Germany, the eurozone's largest economy, rose in May for the fifth month running, and by a higher-than-expected 18,000.

And German manufacturing orders fell 1.1% in April, a separate report showed.

But the ECB is also faced with tackling eurozone inflation which hit 2.9% in April, compared with a 2%
