Tonga appoints woman as governor of central bank

Tonga has appointed a woman as head of the country's central bank. Siosi Cocker Mafi has worked at the Bank since 1993 and becomes the first woman to govern a central bank in the Pacific Islands.

Tonga has become the first Pacific Island nation to formally appoint a woman as Governor of the country's National Reserve Bank.

Tonga's Minister for Finance announced that Siosi Cocker Mafi has been appointed to the position.

Mrs. Mafi joined the Reserve Bank staff in March
