Fed's Pianalto relaxed on US inflation

Cleveland Federal Reserve President Sandra Pianalto said on Monday 21 February that US inflationary pressures remain muted despite a surge in January wholesale prices.

Businesses are facing difficulties in passing on higher costs, which helps keep inflation in check, she added.

Gains in PPI do not necessarily feed through into retail price increases, as measured by the Consumer Price Index, the Fed president told reporters after addressing a conference on European and American models for growth.
