Bundesbank sees German public deficit at 3.5%

Bundesbank chief economist Hermann Remsperger said in an interview that the German fiscal deficit would amount to 3.5% of gross domestic product (GDP) this year.

The Bundesbank predicted today that the German public deficit would amount to 3.5% of gross domestic product (GDP) this year, in excess of EU limits.

It added that it would difficult for the euro zone's biggest economy to bring its deficit ratio back below 3% in 2004.
