Romania's foreign debt increases this year

Romania's foreign debt has increased in the first three quarters of 2000 by 1.5% compared with the end of 1999, reaching $9.2bn, Romania's central bank said. Medium and long term foreign debt increased by 1.8% to $8.8bn, while the short-term debt decreased by 4.8% to $366.9m.

Public and publicly-guarateed debt amounted to $6.3bn, representing 71.3% of the medium-and long-term debt. Private sector debt increased over the first three quarters of the year by 3% reaching $2.5bn.
