King refuses to aid markets
Mervyn King, the governor of the Bank of England, said on Wednesday that he believed providing additional liquidity against a wider range of collateral and over longer periods "sows the seeds of a future financial crisis".
In a letter to John McFall, the head of the UK Treasury Committee, King said: "The provision of large liquidity facilities penalises those financial institutions that sat out the dance, encourages herd behaviour and increases the intensity of future prices."
