Current practices distort earnings - Greenspan

US - Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan on Friday said failure by firms to count option grants to employees as expenses may significantly distort earnings.

In a speech delivered via satellite from Washington to a Fed conference in Sea Island, Ga., Greenspan said the "seemingly narrow" issue of option expensing is "critically important for the accurate representation of economic performance." Greenspan offered no comments on the current state of the economy or monetary policy.
