Weber officially takes over at Bundesbank

Economics professor Axel Weber was formally appointed on Friday 30 April to head the Bundesbank, following Ernst Welteke's recent resignation. He can therefore attend the next meeting of the European Central Bank in Helsinki next week.

Weber, 47, a member of the government's council of economic advisers with no party affiliation, was nominated for the post to replace Ernst Welteke, who resigned after it was revealed that he had accepted the hotel stay from a commercial bank he regulates.
