Mexican cbank governor outlines monetary policy

According to El Economista web site, the governor of the Bank of Mexico, Guillermo Ortiz Martinez, has submitted on Jan. 18, 2001 a preview of the Monetary Policy Programme for coming year and has confirmed an aggressive tightening of the money supply by managing short-term benchmark interest rates and bank deposits. The top central banker indicated that these two tools, applied along with the "short" [mechanism to drain liquidity from the interbank market], would give the Bank of Mexico
