ECB policy 'appropriate' according to Tietmeyer

Former Bundesbank President Hans Tietmeyer said in an interview with Bloomberg television the European Central Bank's interest rates were at the right level and called on countries to respect for the European Union's rules on budget deficits.

``Monetary policy is appropriate, we have to concentrate on structural problems,'' Tietmeyer said in an interview on Bloomberg television today. ``Dynamism'' in the 12 countries sharing the euro ``can't be created with expansive fiscal policy.''
