Nat Bank of Belarus approves single currency idea

BELARUS - The board of the National Bank of Belarus has approved the bank's blueprint for implementing an existing agreement with Russia on "creating conditions" to turn the Russian rouble into the single currency of the proclaimed union state of Belarus and Russia. The National Bank did not release any details.

The bank's press secretary, Mikhail Zhuravovich, said only that the blueprint was based on an action plan for 2001-05 signed by the governments of Belarus and Russia in June 2002. The
