Shiokawa to discuss forex with O'Neill

JAPAN - Although the government wants a weaker yen to accompany the Bank of Japan's easy monetary stance, it is hard to intentionally drive currency rates, Japanese Finance Minister Masajuro Shiokawa said today, 5 September.

"Rates can't be intentionally driven (by us)," Shiokawa said at a regular press conference at the ministry.

Asked whether he wants a weaker yen as the result of monetary easing by the BOJ, Shiokawa said: "I hope that will happen."
