Duisenberg sees inflation below 2 pct in May

NETHERLANDS - European Central Bank President Wim Duisenberg said on Friday he expected euro zone inflation to fall below its two percent tolerance ceiling in May 2002.

"It's my expectation that in May, euro zone inflation will be below two percent," he said in response to a question after delivering a speech to editors.

Duisenberg also said most economic developments had been in line with the ECB's expectations and were pointing to a gradual euro zone recovery in the course of this year.
