Schroeder urges ECB consider rate cut

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said on Wednesday 25 February the European Central Bank should "most intensively" consider cutting interest rates to halt the euro's appreciation against the dollar.

In a blunt appeal to the eurozone central bank, Schroeder said in an interview with NDR television that business confidence in Germany was being hurt by the euro strength and called upon the ECB to take action.

"The dollar weakness and resulting euro strength is causing problems with our exports,"
