Fed's Parry says US rates appropriate

The chances of inflation becoming a problem in the US economy are low, San Francisco Fed President and CEO Robert Parry has said. Speaking in Sydney via satellite, he commented "In the current low-inflation environment, upside surprises aren't much of a concern."

The United States Federal Reserve (Fed) could raise interest rates by up to half a per cent and it would still be maintaining a stimulatory economic environment, according to a senior Fed official.
