Trichet: Growth not threatened by oil price rise

The world economy will continue to grow despite a rise in oil prices, European Central Bank governor Jean-Claude Trichet said on Monday at the Group of 10 meeting of central bank governors in Basel.

"The global economy is confirming its steady growth," Trichet said after a meeting at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), the so-called central bankers' central bank. "This steady growth is not hampered by the rise of commodity prices or oil prices," he added.
