Russian Duma approve Ignatyev as central bank head

RUSSIA - Russia's lower house of parliament, the State Duma, Wednesday approved Sergei Ignatyev as chairman of the central bank.

As expected Ignatyev won overwhelming support from the Duma, with 290 legislators voting for his nomination and 40 against.

The new central banker will replace Viktor Gerashchenko who resigned unexpectedly late Friday, six months before the end of his term.
