Spain's Rato sees two candidates to replace Noyer

SPAIN - Spanish Economy Minister Rodrigo Rato said on Thursday that there were only two candidates to replace European Central Bank vice-president Christian Noyer, and it seemed unlikely more would come forward.

Rato, head of Ecofin, also said he was unaware of any effort to reach agreement among European Union member states so that the successor to ECB president Wim Duisenberg would be French.

Asked about the Noyer succession, Rato said "We didn't set a specific deadline (to present candidates)
