SA's Mboweni hints at further tightening

Tito Mboweni, the governor of the South African Reserve Bank, said on Tuesday that the institution would do its job of controlling inflation "come hell or high water".

Facing the South African public on Tuesday, Mboweni signalled that the central bank would raise rates at its next meeting on 11 and 12 June, saying it was "very clear" that monetary policy had to "tighten a bit".

"Any central bank worth its salt will want to contain inflation at lower levels," he added.
