Fukui calls emergency meeting

Toshihiko Fukui, the new governor at the Bank of Japan called an emergency meeting of the policy board for Tuesday morning, March 25, fuelling expectations that the central bank intends to take further emergency measures.

In a one-line statement, the BoJ said the "ad hoc" meeting, the first to be called since the BoJ became independent in 1998, was in view "of the prevailing economic and financial conditions, including the effect of military action against Iraq."
