Ian Macfarlane reappointed chief of RBA

The governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia, Ian Macfarlane, was reappointed Tuesday for a further three years rather than the usual seven year term. The reappointment decision was widely expected with few alternative candidates suggested.

Treasurer Peter Costello today reappointed Ian Macfarlane governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Mr Macfarlane, whose term was due to expire on September 18, will continue for another three years until September 17, 2006.
