Jarai: Hungary further and further away from 2008

President Zsigmond Jarai of the National Bank of Hungary said in a TV interview that Hungary is slipping "farther and farther away" from the introduction of the euro in 2008.

Jarai said meeting the criteria for adopting the common European currency in 2008 requires increasingly larger sacrifices, which the government will have to take into account when making a decision on the target date. The current level of political commitment may not be sufficient for eurozone accession in 2008, while
