Euro area inflation rises above target

The euro zone's annual inflation rate rose to 2 percent in April, edging above the European Central Bank's target for the first time this year, the European Union said Tuesday 18 May.

The EU statistics agency Eurostat said prices rose by 0.4 percent from March in the 12 countries using the euro. That was in line with private forecasts and Eurostat's preliminary estimate published earlier this month.
