Rumours abound on Trichet successor in France

ECB bound Jean-Claude Trichet is lobbying for Herve Hannoun to take over as governor of the bank of France when Trichet leaves. But politics may scupper the plan, the FT's Observer column reports.

Another stage today in the long-running succession saga at the European Central Bank. Jean-Claude Trichet, Bank of France governor, is expected to get the nod to succeed Wim Duisenberg - but not without first causing more trouble back in Paris.
