New Korean government to leave central bank alone

South Korea's incoming government, elected in December, will respect the Bank of Korea's independence, an official said on Wednesday.

"The role the central bank plays remains the same regardless of the government," said Choi Joong-kyung, a transition team official, after speaking with representatives of the central bank. Some commentators suggested the new government would clash with the central bank because its pro-growth policies could lead to inflation.
