China predicts economy growing 8-9 pct in 2004

China's economy is on track to grow between 8 and 9 percent in 2004 despite government cooling measures, Yao Jingyuan, spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics, was quoted today (28 September) as saying.

''The national economic growth will definitely surpass the 7 percent target set at the start of this year and the full-year GDP growth is expected to reach 8-9 percent,'' the China Securities Journal quoted Yao as saying.
