Minister hints at Japanese wealth fund

Japan's Financial Services Minister said on 29 June that the country should debate whether to set up a fund to manage its foreign currency reserves.

However the minister, Yuji Yamamoto, said that he did not know whether the government was considering such a step. It was important to examine both good and bad effects on financial markets and the extent to which the public sector might be involved, he said.
