Mid-Atlantic factory output edges up in Sept

US - Manufacturing activity in the U.S. mid-Atlantic region turned positive in September, providing a ray of hope that the summer slowdown in the factory sector was temporary.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia said on Thursday its business conditions index rose to 2.3 in September from -3.1 in August. Economists had expected the index to recover to positive territory at 1.4.

The improvement in September was led by a recovery in new orders to 5.6 from -2.7 in August, while inflation
