Monetary policy at centre stage

US - The US Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates by 50 basis points when it meets this week.It is thought that the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) will also cut rates, imposing a 25 basis point reduction following its meeting on 2 October. The RBA may take international trade data, due for release on 2 October, into consideration when making its decision on interest rates. It is thought that a $A250 million surplus will be announced for August 2001. Building approvals information
