Ex-Nigerian finance minister rejoins World Bank
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a former finance and foreign minister in Nigeria, is set to become a managing director at the World Bank.
Robert Zoellick, the president of the World Bank, said: "As an outstanding minister of finance and foreign minister in Nigeria, Ngozi helped lead the country's reform program on issues of fiscal prudence, transparency of government accounts, good governance and anti-corruption."
He added: "Ngozi was also instrumental in helping Nigeria obtain its first ever Sovereign credit rating from Fitch and Standard & Poor's."
Okonjo-Iweala first joined the Bank in 1982. She was a vice president and also directed its operations in the Middle East and North Africa before working as the Nigerian finance minister and subsequently its foreign minister from 2003 until 2006. Since 2006, she has worked for the Brookings Institute as a research fellow.
She will join fellow managing directors Juan Jose Daboub and Graeme Wheeler, executive vice presidents Lars Thunell and Yukiko Omura, and chief financial officer Vincenzo La Via at the top level of World Bank management on 1 December.
