BoJ policymakers say rate rise is likely

A few Bank of Japan policymakers said the central bank should raise interest rates in January if it were to gain confidence about the economic outlook, according to minutes of the policy board's December meeting, which were released Tuesday 23 January.

The members said that "if it became more certain about future developments in economic activity and prices, it should adjust the unprecedentedly low level of the policy interest rate at an appropriate time, at the meeting in January or later,"
