PBOC says not right time to raise rates

China will not raise interest rates at this time, a central bank official said, according to a report from the Xinhua news agency on Monday 3 April.

People's Bank of China spokesman Li Chao was quoted as saying in Shanghai that interest rate adjustments should be based on the economic situation and that 'it's not time to raise interest rates now.'

The spokesman did not specify the interest rates referred to, nor did he give more details, the report said.
