Politician says Koizumi agrees to ask BOJ to ease

JAPAN - Senior ruling Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker Hideyuki Aizawa said 1 August he and Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi agreed on the need to call for the Bank of Japan to ease further.

"We discussed the need to ask the BOJ to ease monetary policy," Aizawa told reporters after meeting Koizumi.

The remark could suggest that the government may put more pressure on the central bank to take steps to stem falling prices and shore up the sagging economy.
