Established in March 1948 (as successor to the Reichsbank, established on 1 January 1876) as Bank Deutscher Lander; capital owned by Land central banks (Landeszentralbanken). Under the Deutsche Bundesbank act of 26 July 1957, the Bank Deutscher Lander absorbed the previously affiliated Landeszentralbanken and its name changed to Deutsche Bundesbank. The Landeszentralbanken remained as main offices (Hauptverwaltung) of the Bundesbank with their previous names but were no longer
