New Canadian $5 on hold as finance minister delays decision

Replacing former PM could provoke backlash from French Canadians and Conservatives

More than three years after the Bank of Canada said it would put a new face on the Canadian $5 note, the initiative appears to have stalled.

“The current $5 note with depictions of Sir Wilfrid Laurier and Canadarm2 and Dextre [Canadian space robotic systems] will continue to circulate for some time,” the central bank told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
