Some US banks “too big to manage”, OCC head warns

Acting comptroller Michael Hsu says agency may clarify regulation to improve governance

The head of a major US bank regulator warned that some banks are “too big to manage”.

Michael Hsu, acting comptroller of the currency, said his agency may make its regulatory requirements clearer to encourage better governance at the largest banks. Hsu identified several governance weaknesses that oversized banks suffer, in his address to the Brookings Institution think-tank on January 17.
