Chilean convention proposes central bank reform

Draft constitution would give central bank broader mandate and larger council

Chile’s Constitutional Convention has adopted draft provisions that will, if approved by voters, change the mandate and board of the central bank. The convention completed a draft of the new constitution on May 14.

The draft includes eight articles concerning the Central Bank of Chile. The first of these defines the central bank as an “autonomous organ with [its own] legal personality and its own property”, continuing its present legal status.
