Belizean governor fired by prime minister after ‘integrity’ row – reports

Former governor says he was forced out after conflict over “special interests”

The prime minister of Belize dismissed central bank governor Manuel Gustavo Vasquez after a dispute over “integrity and operational autonomy”, according to media reports.

The central bank announced Vasquez’s departure from office on August 13, after four months in the role, but had not said why he was leaving. The government does not appear to have issued a statement on the matter.
