Capital flows are constantly shifting, but it has historically been hard to keep track of the movements using aggregate data.

In the wake of the global financial crisis, Matteo Maggiori, Brent Neiman and Jesse Schreger noticed that micro-data could help unlock important details on which firms were allocating capital where, as well as the currency composition, pricing and more.

Their work, now established as the Global Capital Allocation Project, is shedding new light on the winners and losers
