IMF urges Irish authorities to ‘enhance’ central bank independence

Report finds uncompetitive pay may be hurting ability to hire and retain supervisors

The Irish authorities should "enhance" the independence of the country's central bank, according to an IMF report published May 13 – chiefly by limiting the minister of finance's influence in its oversight.

Prepared by the Fund's monetary and capital markets department, the report stressed there was "no evidence of political and commercial interference" but still called for changes.
