The Albanian parliament looks set to appoint a new central bank governor by the end of the month, with Gent Sejko, a former bank inspector, lined up for the job.

The previous governor, Ardian Fullani, was sacked in September for alleged "abuse of office", after another employee confessed to stealing 713 million lek ($6.2 million) from the central bank's vaults.

Sejko, currently deputy director general at Societe Generale Albania, was nominated as successor by president Bujar Nishani last month.
