Indonesia holds and enacts new measures to protect rupiah value

Indonesia’s central bank has held rates while rolling out new measures to protect the value of the rupiah. The decision came on the same day as Hong Kong’s de facto central bank said it had agreed to boost payments co-operation with its Indonesian counterpart.

Bank Indonesia (BI) spokesperson Ramdan Denny Prakoso said on September 23 that the central bank had held rates at 5.75% as part of its strategy to maintain a stable exchange rate “amid persistently strong headwinds”. Prakoso also said the
