Bolivia sells $35m to stabilise local currency

FX market volatility not in line with ‘economic fundamentals’, central bank says

The Central Bank of Bolivia has made dollars available to local financial institutions in a bid to stabilise the domestic currency.

In a statement on September 8, the central bank said the planned measure was intended to “mitigate unnecessary volatility observed in the foreign exchange market that is not in line with economic fundamentals”. In a separate statement a day later, the central bank said it was going ahead with the sale of $35 million at 12.1 bolivianos a dollar.
