Ueda’s hospitalisation may create challenges for BoJ comms

Observers say bank is still likely to hike, but signs of future policy path will be harder to read

Bank of Japan governor Kazuo Ueda has been hospitalised and will miss next week’s scheduled monetary policy meeting, thus depriving observers of one of the most consistent sources of information about the country’s policy path following its upcoming rates decision.
