Paraguay signals neutral stance with pause in easing cycle

Central bank expects inflation to rise to 3.5% target by end of year

Map of Latin America

The Central Bank of Paraguay has kept its benchmark interest rate at 5.5%.

In a statement following the decision on March 20, the bank’s monetary policy committee said it was maintaining a “neutral stance”. The pause followed two consecutive 25 basis point cuts in January and February.

The bank said economic activity continued to expand in January, albeit at a slower pace than last year, while inflation remained low. It said both sets of developments had been in line with its expectations.
