Montenegro appoints Radović as first woman governor

New governor takes office after former president failed to keep predecessor in role

Irena Radović has been appointed governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro in a 58–13 parliamentary vote, making her the first woman to hold the role. 

The appointment of Radović, a former central bank official and diplomat, follows a failed attempt by the country’s former president to keep the previous governor in post. It is part of a series of wider changes in key policy-making roles following an election earlier this year.
