Milei wins, putting the BCRA in the firing line

Candidate has promised to abolish central bank and encourage dollarisation

Central bank opponent Javier Milei triumphed in the second round of Argentina’s presidential elections on November 19. Milei defeated Sergio Massa, the economy minister and candidate of the governing coalition, and will take office next month.

Milei has promised to abolish the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA), and introduce “currency competition that will permit citizens to freely choose the monetary system and dollarisation of the economy”.
