Critic urges UK to leave China-based lender

Treasury says UK will stay in AIIB as ex-official calls some employees “useful idiots”

A former communications chief at the Beijing-based Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has urged the UK to leave the multilateral lender.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Bob Pickard said western officials at the AIIB were “being used by the bank for the Chinese Communist party’s propaganda purposes”.

Pickard, a Canadian national, resigned from the AIIB in June, claiming that the Communist party dominated the bank. Canada suspended its participation in the institution shortly thereafter
