The National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK) governor’s six-year term was cut short today (September 4), amid ongoing reforms.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev removed Galymzhan Pirmatov as central bank governor via decree. Tokayev named his former deputy chief of staff, Timur Suleimenov, as successor on the same day, with senate approval. Other appointments and dismissals this year were in foreign policy, intelligence and defence.

Suleimenov has held a number of governmental positions since 2009
