Bulgarian MPs re-elect Radev as governor

Governor had served two years past end of first term amid prolonged political crisis

Bulgaria’s parliament elected central bank governor Dimitar Radev to a second six-year term on July 18.

The vote ended a two-year period where it had failed to elect a new governor, and Radev had continued in office on an acting basis. Radev won 155 votes in the 240-member assembly.

The centre-right Gerb party, part of a new coalition government, proposed Radev for a new term. The far-right Revival party also proposed a candidate for governor, economist Lyubomir Hristov, who gained only 39
